Description

Celebrated and praised by critics and audiences alike as a torchbearer of Scandinavian jazz akin to the likes of Esbjörn Svensson and Tord Gustavsen, Danish pianist Søren Bebe proudly presents his trio’s seventh studio album.

Founded in 2007, the Søren Bebe Trio have cemented themselves as a cornerstone of European jazz with performances at leading festivals and venues in Hong Kong, South Korea, Morocco, Brazil, Poland, the USA and Denmark.

‘Here Now’ follows the critical acclaim of their 2019 release ‘Echoes’ and marks a new era for the trio, welcoming Norwegian drummer Knut Finsrud into the ensemble for the first time alongside bassist Kasper Tagel.

Seeking inspiration from his heroes of past and present including Tord Gustavsen, Espen Eriksen, Misha Alperin and Jan Johansson, Bebe explores narrative themes of slowing down and seeking presence and gratitude through delicate melodies and a folk-like simplicity.

Having recently moved to a small village in Denmark with his family surrounded by woods, lakes and farmland, the quiet, contemplative and spacious tone of ‘Here Now’ is reflective of Bebe’s newfound pace of life and surroundings. Introspective and melancholic in tone, Bebe’s compositions usher the listener through intricately woven chord progressions and familiar song-like structures with intensity and tranquility. Steadfast grooves decorated with rich percussion timbres dissolve into rubato passages of openness across 10 original compositions that are maturely confident in their subtlety.

Original and delicate music, with atmospheres that sensitively transport you to the composer’s Nordic universe. Impeccable, realistic, dynamic and detailed engraving. Really great album

After purchasing all of Søren’s CD’s, I was so impressed with his music that I decided to give his latest release “Here Now” a go on vinyl. Like all of his music, it is cerebral, beautiful and an absolute pleasure to listen to. If you are not familiar with his music, I would highly recommend it for focused listening, background music for dinner/cocktail parties or any occasion where you would like to experience virtuosic piano trio music. Thank you Søren!

  4. Jon Øystein Strand (verified owner)

    Nice and relaxing music.

    Perfect

I’ve discovered Soren Bebe by chance. If, like me, you love a contemporary piano jazz trio, SBT is for you. While parallels with Scandinavian predecessors are evident (the eternal Esbjörn is hovering), inspirations are multiple. On the opening of « Misha » the way Soren touches the keys makes me think of the legendary Keith Jarrett playing Bach on the harpsichord. Just for a couple of seconds though. He isn’t Keith Jarrett and I suppose he doesn’t pretend to be. The recording and the pressing are impeccable. I played the record twice in a row. An excellent private session during which you close your eyes. Looking forward to a live gig sometime, somewhere.
